The Potential of Streptomyces as Biocontrol Agents against the Rice Blast Fungus, Magnaporthe oryzae (Pyricularia oryzae)
Rice is a staple food source for more than three billion people worldwide. However, rice is vulnerable to diseases, the most destructive among them being rice blast, which is caused by the fungus Magnaporthe oryzae (anamorph Pyricularia oryzae). This fungus attacks rice plants at all stages of development, causing annual losses of approximately 10-30% in various rice producing regions. Syntheti...
متن کاملSHOOT REGENERATION FROM PROTOPLASTS OF PENNISETUM AMERICANUM L (MIL CEREAL)
A finely dispersed cell suspension was obtained from embryogenic calli of two genotypes of pearl millet (Pennisetum americanum L. Mil cereal). Protoplasts isolated from both cell suspensions divided and produced globular embryoids and calli. On an agar medium, the embryoids were induced to form albino shoots or albino plantlet- like structures

HWANG, B. K., and H. S. CHUNG. 1977. Acquired tolerance to Blasticidin-S in Pyricularia oryzae. Phytopathology 67: 421-424. Thirteen naturally-occurring isolates of Pyricularia oryzae transfers on fungicide-free media. Successive monoconidial varied in tolerance to Blasticidin-S [l-(1'-cytosinyl)-4-[L-3'cultures of Bu7 were genetically homogeneous for tolerance. amino-5-(l"-N-methylguanidino) v...
متن کاملIsolation and regeneration of protoplasts from Ectocarpus.
This article describes how to obtain isolated cells with no surrounding cell wall by enzymatic digestion of Ectocarpus filaments. The resultant protoplasts are totipotent and regenerate to produce individual algae under appropriate culture conditions. The yield of protoplasts and their capacity to regenerate are highly dependent on the Ectocarpus strain used, the stage of the life cycle, and th...
متن کاملComparative Study of Substrates and Inhibitors of Azospirillum lipoferum and Pyricularia oryzae Laccases.
Azospirillum lipoferum and Pyricularia oryzae laccases were compared, using several substrates and inhibitors. Sixteen phenolic or nonphenolic compounds were found to be substrates of both fungal and bacterial laccases. In the presence of different phenol oxidase inhibitors, P. oryzae and A. lipoferum laccase activities had similar properties.
